3D-printing makes manufacturing processes faster and smoother

Sandbacka Science Park has expertise in additive manufacturing (AM), or 3D printing as it is also called.
AM is a manufacturing technique where three-dimensional objects are built up with material deposited layer upon layer in shapes that are predetermined and defined in a so-called CAD model. Additive manufacturing transforms manufacturing industries from “analog” to digital by enabling manufacturing directly from a digital 3D CAD file.
AM technology creates both new opportunities to manufacture, for example, tool holders and fixture components with lower weight and unique geometric designs. With additive manufacturing, there are new opportunities to design and manufacture starting substances, where materials are added exactly where needed, instead of wasting large quantities of off cuts. This greatly reduces production time as AM only deposits material in the desired final shape and finish. And as the technique evolves for new high-performance materials, it will become increasingly attractive to the tooling industry for example.
